Kid’s Playbarn at Bronte Provincial Park

Bronte is one of the most dynamic areas in Oakville. Did you know there’s a Provincial Park just outside your front door?

Raccoons trying to clean our dishes at midnight. I just finished a great weekend of camping in my backyard. Well not really my backyard but close enough. We only live a few minutes away from Bronte Creek Provincial Park in Oakville, this park is a hidden gem. Our kids are young and we just started camping late this summer. So far we’ve only been to Bronte Park and Valens’ Conservation Area. We’re rookies learning the ropes, trying to find the best camping site and building the perfect fire while keeping unwanted late night visitors away.

We purchased a really nice pop-up trailer from a couple in Oakville a few months ago and we haven’t looked back. The camping at Bronte is a little different with the campgrounds separate from the actual park. The campground is accessible from Bronte Road heading west along Upper Middle Road which leads right into the camping site. The larger main park is accessed from Burloak Road. At first we thought that this set-up was awkward, however after two separate weekends of camping we found it quite nice to have the separation.

As a family we’re looking to expand our reach to other parks in the future but the connivence and activities at Bronte are very good. The camping area offers many different types of sites along with clean bathrooms with showers, several play areas for kids and endless walking/biking trails. The large park area offers hiking trails; play barn for kids; farm animal area; picnic areas; fishing; swimming pool and an outdoor skating rink in the winter.

We’re looking to venture a little further from home next year and we need some advice on different locations that we should consider. Recommendations very much appreciated!
